Professor Who Flagged Jason Arday Cambridge Cheating Scandal Suspended: 'They Will Almost Certainly Fire Me'

The people who will face consequences for the Jason Arday affair will be those who pointed out that he was an academic fraud and serial fabulist, not those who enabled him, considering that the first major fallout from the scandal is that the professor who first publicly flagged his misdeeds has been put on leave.

Nathan Cofnas of Ghent University in Belgium, who broke the story publicly in July, confirmed he was “just suspended” on Thursday and that the university “will almost certainly fire me.”

“The decision was made by rector Petra De Sutter, a former leader of the Green Party,” he added.

Since the Arday scandal broke and the former Cambridge scholar took his own life, much of the focus has shifted to Cofnas, who was the first to note publicly in a Substack post that much of Arday’s work was plagiarized, his backstory was farcical (he was an ultra-elite marathoner totally unknown in the ultra-marathoning community; he said he couldn’t speak until........
