Disney Almost Built a ‘Dick Tracy’ Ride Where Kids Shot Tommy Guns at Gangsters

The scrapped attraction would have sent guests through a high-speed gangster chase armed with realistic-looking Tommy guns.

Even if you’re a fan of Warren Beatty’s 1990 film adaptation of Dick Tracy, you have to admit it’s pretty wild that such a violent movie was distributed by Disney. OK, OK, it might be considered “cartoon violence,” and there’s no actual blood shown at any point, but there’s absolutely no way that sort of project would be geared toward children nowadays.

Hell, the titular hero mows down a bunch of gangsters with a Tommy gun by the time we get to the end. You’d be hard-pressed to find a scene from any modern-day Disney movie that plays out like this:

Believe it or not, though, the folks at Disney were looking to do a lot more with the Dick........
