Regardless of the outcome of Michigan’s Democratic primary election for U.S. Senate on Aug. 4, one thing is certain: Republicans are going to call the winner a “radical.” Why? Because they can't say that two years of GOP policies have been a success.

In an Aug. 2 interview with Fox News, Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers expressed confidence that he will be able to beat either moderate Rep. Haley Stevens or progressive Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in November, saying that both candidates “are very radical, and they are way too extreme for Michigan.”

While neither Stevens nor El-Sayed are pitching anything extreme, the GOP is convinced that anything left of conservatism is communist. That’s because conservatives can’t define themselves using the one word that would win over voters: “successful.”

The Republican Party may have the support of the diehard Make America Great Again movement, but the rest of the country is souring on the conservative agenda that is harming the government and the economy.

President Donald Trump’s poll numbers are devastatingly low. In fact, a new CNN poll shows that only 1 in 5 Republicans are enthusiastic about the rest of Trump’s term. Another CNN poll shows that voters are more likely to side with Democrats than Republicans in November’s midterm elections.
