With allegations of vendettas, political betrayals and Dominic Perrottet being backstabbed at his own wedding, day six of the ICAC’s blockbuster inquiry veered dangerously close to watching an episode of Game of Thrones, the fantasy series featuring a group of powerful families battling to the death to seize power.

“I’m not sure whether he called me a rat, but he definitely suspected me,” witness Robert Assaf said of Jeremy Greenwood, who has the potential to emerge in the role of “Littlefinger”, the master manipulator in GoT.

The weekend break appeared to have done wonders for the memory of the man in the hot seat on Monday, Assaf, who attempted to portray himself as the peacemaker among his warring fellowship of religious warriors.

Along with Christian Ellis, 34, Assaf, 30, co-founded the conservative right group who called themselves the Reformers. The group is alleged to have used dodgy donations, washed through Ellis and Greenwood’s lobbying firm, to fund their branch-stacking activities.
