Pakistan once again finds itself at the forefront of the global fight against terrorism. Having endured decades of violence, the country has paid an enormous price in blood and resources to safeguard not only its own security but also regional stability. While the resurgence of terrorist incidents during 2026 has posed fresh challenges, Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defeating extremism remains stronger than ever.
The first seven months of 2026 have been particularly testing. According to figures released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 3,145 terrorism-related incidents were recorded across the country during this period. These attacks claimed the lives of 819 Pakistanis, including security personnel and civilians. Among the martyrs were 303 soldiers, 194 police and law enforcement officials, and 322 civilians. The provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan bore the brunt of this violence, as terrorist groups sought to challenge the writ of the state and undermine public confidence in national institutions.
Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism is neither new nor temporary. It is the continuation of a long and determined national campaign that has spanned more than two decades. Through major military operations such as Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad, the country succeeded in dismantling the organisational structures of numerous terrorist groups and restoring peace to many previously troubled regions. These operations demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated military action backed by public support and political consensus.
