Trump fires back at EU over Google’s $1B fine, launches probe

President Trump on Friday slammed the European Union for fining Google over allegedly violating its digital competition law, stating the “illegal and highly discriminatory practice” will be probed in a trade investigation.

“The European Union is at it again and, as usual, taking direct aim at GREAT American Companies!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This illegal and highly discriminatory practice started at these high levels during the first year of the Sleepy Joe Biden Administration, but it’s not going to continue during the Trump Administration. The United States of America is not a ‘PIGGYBANK’ for Europe, nor will we allow it to be!”

The latest fine on Google follows a series of penalties levied against Apple and Meta, both U.S.-based companies.

The president said the U.S. will launch a Section 301 investigation into the repeated fines from the EU. Trump has used this trade tool to implement tariffs on other countries after the Supreme Court struck down his use “liberation tariffs” earlier this........
