The More Interconnected The World, The More We Want To Isolate Ourselves

It seems that the more interconnected our world becomes, the more we want to isolate ourselves from it.
Take grocery stores and people who opt to wear headphones while shopping. It’s hard to blame them, and I have done it myself. As one X user pointed out, these spaces are crowded, noisy and “bathed in fluorescent light.” What’s wrong with someone wanting to tune out the corporate muzak, crashing grocery carts, and moms yapping too loudly on their phones, turning private conversations into public performances?
