Sometimes you just need to have a fight, and that’s exactly what happened here.

The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels saw their benches get cleared Tuesday night, this after Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo López and Angels right fielder Jorge Soler got into a wild brawl with both sides throwing heavy punches. The scene came after Soler hit a home run during his first at-bat, while in his second at-bat, he was hit by a pitch from López.

After a high pitch in the fifth inning, López and Soler stared each other down, ultimately escalating into Soler charging the mound and then throwing blows at López. López reacted with his own punches, however, neither player had a true connection in the scrum. Still holding the ball in one hand, López tossed blows with the other, knocking off the helmet that Soler was wearing. Ultimately, both the Atlanta and Los Angeles benches cleared, with all hell breaking loose around the first-base line.

Soler claims that López said something following the pitch that triggered his reaction. Soler is 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, while López is 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds. (RELATED: ‘I’m Going To Take One Of Them Out’: Red Sox’ Contreras Threatens Brewers After Getting Blasted By Pitch)

“I asked him if everything was OK and the answer he gave me, I didn’t like it,” said Soler via interpreter Jobel Jiménez, per MLB.com. “That’s why I went out there.”

According to López, Soler was staring him down following the pitch. He said prior to Tuesday’s game, he didn’t have any issue with Soler, labeling the situation as a misunderstanding.

“It’s just a shame, the situation and how things unfolded,” said López via interpreter Franco García. “On my part, there was never any intent to hit him at any point. So, again, it’s just a shame.”

Hockey fights might be the most violent, but baseball fights are the most magical … what a scene.
