Can we please stop making people working from home the scapegoats for what is wrong with our high streets and city centres?

As usual, the truth is far more complicated than some folk would like you to believe.

Pre-Covid, I was an office worker. On very rare occasions, usually when I was working on big projects, I would work at home for a day so I could fully focus on a job without distractions.

I would spend money in the city centre when I worked in an office

But four days a week I commuted to Courier HQ in Dundee, which was a drive of around 45 minutes each way, and I racked up the costs of fuel and parking and all those normal things.

Occasionally I did pick up a takeaway sandwich or something yummy for my lunch, but most of the time I brought something from home. And sometimes on my break I would nip to a shop to get a present for a loved one.

So yes, I did spend money in the city centre when I worked in an office. I won’t try and deny that.

However, since 2022, I think I’ve been to the office less than a handful of times because I am now a home worker.

If I was told I needed to work “on site” again,........
