FTC is investigating OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies over product safety risks

The agency confirmed the probe on Wednesday; it first opened the investigation this summer, according to CBS News

The Federal Trade Commission confirmed Wednesday that it is examining OpenAI, Anthropic, and several other artificial intelligence companies for risks their products may create for consumers.

An FTC spokesperson confirmed the probe to CNBC but declined to name which other companies are under investigation. The agency first opened the investigation this summer, according to CBS News. Neither OpenAI nor Anthropic responded to requests for comment.
