Eli Lilly's experimental weight loss drug shed 21% of body weight in diabetes trial

Participants with a higher starting BMI lost up to 23% of body weight, the most ever recorded in a drug trial for diabetes patients

Eli Lilly $LLY reported Tuesday that participants with type 2 diabetes and obesity taking the highest dose of its experimental drug retatrutide lost an average of 49.6 pounds, or 20.8% of their body weight, over 80 weeks in a Phase 3 clinical trial.

The TRIUMPH-2 trial enrolled 1,152 participants with an average starting weight of about 234 pounds and an average BMI of 38.2. Those taking the 12 mg dose saw the largest weight reduction, with participants who........
