French-door refrigerators now outsell every other configuration, offering roomy interiors, spillproof shelves, and built-in icemakers. Prices range from under $1,000 to more than $5,000, and the priciest models do not automatically cool more evenly than midpriced ones.
Consumer Reports evaluated French-door models across three common widths, wiring each unit with 15 temperature sensors and logging more than 5.4 million readings per fridge, and its nine picks are worth a look before you shop.
Consumer Reports found that the LG LFCS22520S held a set temperature and kept it even from shelf to shelf better than most 30-inch models it tested. Priced from $1,495 to $1,960, the model includes an icemaker, spillproof shelves, a door-open alarm, and digital temperature controls, but no built-in water filter. In CR's testing, low noise counted as a further strength, though ice production, energy use, and everyday handling came in around average and the crisper drawers held little moisture. Members surveyed by CR reported unremarkable reliability and only modest satisfaction with LG French-door refrigerators, so the strong cooling results come with a caveat.
Shoppers watching the bottom line can pick up this 30-inch Midea for $999 to $999.99. Consumer Reports measured accurate, stable cooling in its lab........
