The constant drumbeat of reported advances in AI capabilities has given new momentum to the long-running debate about the future of work. In January, Anthropic’s release of new plug-ins for its workplace assistant, Claude Cowork, caused a sharp, sector-wide sell-off in software stocks, suggesting that investors are prepared to price in disruption on an unprecedented scale. Meanwhile, polls suggest that concerns about the technology’s implications are growing in some countries, with a recent Ipsos survey showing that more Americans are nervous about AI than excited by it.
