There’s been the odd occasion over the past 20 years scribbling this regular epistle of mine when a dearth of topics has made for an exercise in frustration — a columnist version you might say of the writer’s block — resulting in, I have to admit, a bit of a stretch in the criteria for choosing a justifiable issue to tackle.

Not this week, though, when, as it turns out, there has been no shortage of subjects begging for a slice of sauce or ridicule or everything in between.

For example: The almost daily diabolical spurts of venom emanating from that inarticulate man child and scary, immoral monster to the south of us continue to boggle the minds of normal-thinking souls throughout the world (including the half million of us in Newfoundland and Labrador); all of us have been forced more and more to wonder whether and how his alarming antics on the international stage will eventually have a dramatic impact on our daily lives, if they haven’t already.

It would be delightful to just ignore the maniacal s.o.b., and talk about American affairs the way we always have — only on........
