Interfaith gathering to bring together Christians, Jews and Muslims
Peterborough’s Abraham Festival welcomes the community to its 23rd annual event on Saturday, May 9.
The interfaith gathering brings together the spiritual descendants of Abraham — Jews, Christians and Muslims — in a spirit of celebration, curiosity and mutual respect. The event welcomes all who seek to know their neighbours more fully, demystify differences and build a more peaceful world together.
This year’s theme is Bringing Down the Wall Between, and is drawn from the book “The Wall Between: What Jews and Palestinians Don’t Want to Know About Each Other,” by Jeffrey J. Wilkinson and Raja Khouri. Both authors will speak at the festival.
The event will open with a multi-faith prayer service led by Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Baha’i leaders, followed by a youth presentation, What Does Peace Mean to You?, the invited speakers and an audience question and answer session. It will close with a vegetarian potluck, a tradition that turns conversation into community around a shared table.
The Abraham Festival takes place at Mark Street United Church, 90 Hunter St. E. and begins........
