Celebrating Canada, Buckhorn style

If you walked into the gym on July 1 at the Buckhorn Community Centre (BCC) you were met with the sound of our national anthem being sung by the 200 people in the gym at the time.

This was being done as part of All Together Canada, a grassroots movement that invited Canadians to sing the national anthem, “O Canada,” at the exact same time. It was started by two women on Vancouver Island to bring communities together to boost national pride and unite people across political lines.

In Buckhorn it was sung at 1 p.m. in the BCC gymnasium. In Vancouver it was sung at 10 a.m. In the mountains of Alberta it was sung at 11 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time. In Saskatchewan it was sung at 11 a.m. Central Standard Time and so on. Each time zone had its own time to sing so that we would be all singing together as a unified nation.
