Hockey season has officially arrived with the start of the OHL regular season, and the opening of NHL training camps.

While the professional and junior ranks garner the majority of my attention, I also keep a close eye on minor hockey.

Because my son Hudson is a goaltender for the U11 AAA Quinte Red Devils, I can often be found at various minor hockey arenas throughout Ontario. I thoroughly enjoy watching a plethora of young, aspiring players in action.

I am amazed by the talent these youngsters have at such young ages. Several kids possess tremendous offensive creativity while in single digits age wise, and have the ability to shoot the puck with plenty of velocity.

I’ve viewed kids at age 10 displaying incredible poise and patience with the puck, and netminders making unexpected reactionary saves.

The 2026-27 season kicked off for several U12, U11 and U10 AAA players........
