Oilersnation is reviving the Top 100 Edmonton Oilers of All Time list, a project originally created by the late Robin Brownlee in 2015. Craig Simpson comes in at No. 20 on our updated 2025 list. He was ranked No. 18 on Brownlee’s original list.

Craig Simpson was the ultimate complementary winger. He could fill the net with ease, racking up 185 goals in 419 games in Edmonton, but was never shy to get to the dirty areas of the ice, planting himself there, letting those around him take advantage of the space he created.

To put it simply, Craig Simpson walked so Zach Hyman could run. They were cut from the same cloth.

Notable

Simpson was never a volume shooter, averaging just 1.65 per game in his entire career, never more than 2.21 in a single season, but he was an accurate shooter. To this day, his 23.66 shooting percentage is an NHL record that very well might stand the test of time.

He was nothing short of solid in the 1988 playoffs, scoring 13 goals and 19 points in 19 games. But when the big guys left ahead of the 1990 run, Simpson stepped into the spotlight. In Edmonton’s 22-game run to winning the franchise’s fourth Stanley Cup, he would lead........
