There’s a method to the constant madness

Dartmouth, Mass.: President Trump has ridden to victory twice by addressing the grievances of millions of Americans. By blaming their problems on undocumented immigrants, he and his administration continually divert their attention from deepening financial woes. Trump realizes that their discontent, and in many cases fury, has to be sustained for him to maintain their loyalty and adoration. Resolving inflation, reinstating their medical insurance or enhancing their standard of living in any way will dissipate some of the grievances, which could lessen his hold on his supporters.

By alternating his attention from immigrants when some disaffected supporters were critical of ICE tactics, Trump turned his attention to other issues that are fabricated or insignificant. Denouncing any critic or recently elected candidate as communist is a fallback to an ugly period of American history. Harping on the insufficient financial contributions of NATO members gives him cover to insult faithful allies. Every speech of celebration, dedication or explanation contains grievances and false accusations. Keeping his base loyal is dependent on grievances that have no real impact on their daily lives but maintain the anger that cements their allegiance.

Trump’s entire political career is built upon fabricating or calling attention to issues that inflame millions of Americans. As long as his small coterie of enablers can keep the resentment list refreshed daily, his MAGA base will endure.
