The city needs its Jewish legal community

Bronx: To Voicer Ryan Stotland, re the mayor’s 18-member judicial screening panel having no Jews on it: By no means am I a fan of our hateful “Smilin’ Socialist” mayor. However, it’s important to note that almost every aspect of New York’s justice system was controlled for years by a couple of opportunistic Jewish childhood pals from the Lower East Side who would eventually become known as founding members of the “Kosher Nostra.”

The late former state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver carefully orchestrated the judicial career of his whiney and inexperienced pal Jonathan Lippman as an essential part of his shady scheme to take control of the judicial branch of state government. They grew up together in a sprawling LES apartment complex managed by Lippman’s father, “Redline Ralph” Lippman, who discriminated against Black and Hispanic applicants for decades to keep the buildings Jewish and white. When Lippman was appointed as the state’s chief judge, he hailed his father as his greatest hero, which explains why the courts were run like the co-ops.

Nobody did more to create the long-standing perception that the state judiciary was a restricted club than Silver and Lippman, which is an insult to all of the fine Jewish attorneys, judges and scholars who dedicated themselves to the true administration of justice. Their contributions should never be forgotten. It would be a loss to all New Yorkers not to have their input on the judicial selection panels.
