Charlotte McDonald, who lived on the Middlegate Estate in Great Yarmouth, was found dead at her ground-floor flat on November 19, 2024.

An inquest at Norfolk Coroner's Court heard she had failed to respond to calls and messages after spending the evening of November 17 with her fiancé, Philip Cooper, before returning home at 10.52pm.

Mr Cooper, believed to be in his 50s, had been in an on-off relationship with Miss McDonald for about a year after meeting through his son, Ashley, who had been friends with her since childhood.

While working in Tilbury, Essex, the following day, Mr Cooper became concerned when Miss McDonald’s Snapchat location showed she had not left her flat and she had stopped replying to his messages. He asked his son to check on her.

Ashley climbed through an open kitchen window with neighbour Diesel Cording, after finding the back door locked.

“I had a bad feeling,” he said.

“There was a bad smell. I was shouting her name but there was no reply. Then I saw her foot on the bed.”

The pair rolled her over and immediately realised she had died.

Mr Cooper later told the court he had pulled his vehicle over in tears when his son phoned to tell him she was dead.

Paramedic Tom Holley arrived shortly afterwards but was unable to examine her because the flat had already been designated a forensic scene.
