New Delhi: Tom Cruise’s latest film Digger has bombed at the worldwide box office. Alejandro Inarritu’s satire, which features Cruise in a drastically transformed avatar as a ruthless oil tycoon, opened well below trade expectations in North America and has struggled to find momentum in other markets, including India.
The film has collected around $20 million globally in its first three days. Its North American earnings stand at $8 million, while the film has earned Rs 1.55 crore net in India during its opening weekend.
Digger worldwide box office collection
Digger opened to $8 million in North America over its first weekend, falling short of trade projections that had placed its opening in the $12 million-$15 million range. The film added another $12 million from international markets, taking its worldwide total to $20 million after three days.
The opening is particularly notable for Cruise because it marks his weakest North American debut in almost two decades. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the last Tom Cruise film to open below the $8 million mark in the region was Lions for Lambs, which debuted with $6.7 million in 2007.
