Has the House renovation row dented Kejriwal’s ‘aam aadmi’ image?

New Delhi: The Delhi Assembly elections have been announced for February 5. While the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would like to continue with the winning streak that began in 2013, the BJP and Congress would like to throw in the spanner. Despite winning all the Lok Sabha seats in the last two elections, BJP has failed to make any impact in the assembly elections. In fact, it last formed a government in Delhi in the 1993 elections. The Congress won thrice from 1998 to 2008 but failed to open its account in 2015 and 2020 elections. Will anything be different this time? Meanwhile, this is the first election since 2013 when AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal’s personal image and integrity has taken a beating in wake of alleged Delhi Excise Scam or alleged illegal renovation of his official residence as the chief minister. As to how much this will impact the election is difficult to say, however, it is certain that both BJP and Congress are likely to hit the former chief minister Kejriwal where it hurts the most – personal propriety in public life.
