Can BJP break SP’s PDA formula by appointing 25 per cent Dalit District Presidents?
If BJP insiders are to be believed, rattled by the Samajwadi Party’s stupendous showing in the Lok Sabha elections that ultimately caused it the majority of its own, the saffron party is now looking for ways to effectively shatter the rival’s PDA (Picchde Dalit and Alpsankhyak) trap before the 2027 assembly elections. With months-long Kumbh ending on Wednesday, politics is back as the priority in the state.
BJP now wants to project itself as the biggest well-wisher of the Dalits and OBCs, if not the minorities (Alphshankyakh). As a result, despite the passage of more than 50 days when the BJP initiated the process of selecting its District Presidents in the state on January 5, the party is yet to finalise the names. On his visit to Lucknow on January 12, BJP’s National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh has given a deadline of January 15 to declare the new District Presidents in the state. However, the list could not be announced because of the low representation of women, Dalits and OBCs. The BJP’s central leadership has asked the state unit to reconsider and revise the list with clear instructions to include more and people from marginalised sections.
