Barapullah Phase 3 jam hits Monday office rush, Delhi Traffic Police blames Google Maps
Office commuters faced heavy traffic on Delhi’s Barapullah Phase 3 corridor on Monday morning. Delhi Traffic Police said Google Maps was not showing the actual congestion and pointed to a road design bottleneck where traffic from several lanes merges into three.
Delhi office-goers using the newly opened Barapullah Phase 3 corridor ran into heavy traffic on Monday morning, October 5, with queues building up on the route connecting East Delhi with South Delhi. The corridor was opened to cut travel time, but commuters have been reporting congestion almost from the day it became operational.
The Delhi Traffic Police has now pointed to two factors behind the jam. It said Google Maps was not showing the actual traffic conditions on Barapullah Phase 3 towards Barapullah and Ring Road, which meant more drivers were being directed towards an already crowded stretch. At the same time, the road itself has a major merging point where traffic from several lanes gets squeezed into just three.
