Buying sweets in UP? Shops must now display ‘Use By Date’ on mithai from October 15
Uttar Pradesh has made displaying a 'Use By Date' mandatory for sweets sold across the state from October 15, 2026. The new rule covers loose mithai and follows inspections that found gaps in information provided to customers.
The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has introduced the requirement following inspections at sweet manufacturing units and retail shops. Officials found that customers were often given little information about when sweets were prepared or how long they remained suitable for consumption. The department wants to address this gap through clearer date labels.
