New Delhi: A mysterious coded letter linked to Napoleon Bonaparte has finally been deciphered after 217 years with artificial intelligence helping reveal what had remained hidden since 1809. The letter contained military information about French and Austrian troop movements before the war between France and the Habsburg Empire.

The letter was sent to French General Auguste de Marmont from the headquarters of Napoleon’s stepson, Eugene de Beauharnais on Napoleon’s orders. Its first line was written in French but the next 24 lines were filled with two-digit numbers,........
