28,000-ft plunge, 4 hours in air: British Airways flight returns to London after technical glitch
British Airways flight BA295 returned to Heathrow after a rapid 28,000-foot descent over Ireland. The Boeing 777 circled for hours before landing safely following a reported technical issue.
New Delhi: British Airways flight BA295 from London Heathrow to Chicago returned to the UK on Monday after declaring a general emergency and rapidly descending 28,000 feet while flying over Ireland.
The Boeing 777-200ER had reached a cruising altitude of around 37,000 feet when it suddenly descended to about 9,000 feet roughly an hour after take-off. The aircraft then turned back towards London after issuing a squawk 7700 code which is used to indicate a general emergency.
The flight had been scheduled to travel to Chicago O’Hare International Airport with a planned journey time of around eight hours and 40 minutes, according to PTI. Flight-tracking data showed that the aircraft later spent........
