Imagine purchasing what you believe is your dream retirement property, only to face a bureaucratic nightmare after ancient human remains are discovered there. That’s the reality for the Reio family, who, after uncovering remains are now caught in a web of costly archaeological digs that could wipe out their retirement savings and leave them legally trapped with no way out. The process began with an order from the Registrar of Burials compelling the Reios to conduct an archeological investigation. The Reios are legally obligated to do the investigation, and failing to do so can lead to fines and even jail time. But the Reios can’t afford it.
