MANCHESTER, England — Erling Haaland scored the 300th club goal of his career Saturday, reaching the milestone faster than modern-day greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé, though he still trails Lionel Messi's remarkable pace to the same figure.

The Manchester City striker reached the mark with a 26th-minute header off a cross from Antoine Semenyo, the lone goal in City's 1-0 Premier League victory over Coventry City on Sept. 5. The result kept City perfect through the opening weeks of the 2026-27 season and atop the Premier League table, three points clear of defending champions Arsenal.

According to figures cited by ESPN, Haaland reached 300 career club goals in 384 appearances, a pace that outstrips both Kylian Mbappé, who needed 398 matches to reach the same tally, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who took 499 games during his 2014-15 season with Real Madrid to reach the milestone. Former England striker Harry Kane needed 505 matches to hit 300 club goals. The only player among the game's modern elite to reach the mark faster than Haaland is Lionel Messi, who scored his 300th club goal in just 365 appearances, all of them for FC Barcelona.

Some statistical services credit Haaland with 299 rather than 300 goals, disputing one strike from his time with Norwegian club Molde, though the majority of tracking services list him at exactly 300. His goal tally is spread across four clubs: 20 for Molde, 29 for Red Bull Salzburg, 86 for Borussia Dortmund and 165 in 202 appearances for Manchester City.
