The “Board of Peace” will be “one of a kind,” “the most impressive and consequential Board ever assembled, which will be established as a new international organization,” writes Donald Trump, as level-headed as usual, in the letter of invitation sent on January 16 to 60 heads of government.

The contents of the letter were promptly tweeted out on X by Argentine President Javier Milei. We know that the Board of Peace is the political body envisioned by the Trump plan for Gaza. The White House had announced the establishment of a founding Executive Council composed of members of his administration, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, the perennial Tony Blair, the CEO of an enormous investment fund and the President of the World Bank. Now phase 2 of the plan is taking shape – regardless of the fact that Israel continues to kill Palestinians, ration humanitarian aid and expel NGOs. It was not difficult to see the plan for what it was: a neo-colonial project that denies the Palestinian people the right to self-determination and envisions a mandate of the type the League of Nations entrusted to European powers over the “inferior” peoples of........
