SNP must demand powers over broadcasting after death of BBC Scotland channel

The following article appears as part of the Unspun: Scottish Politics newsletter.

It’s striking how little folk are talking about the death of BBC Scotland’s TV channel. It’s not something you hear friends or family much concerned about. Taxi drivers certainly aren’t bending your ear.

The fact that so few people seem to care underscores the broadcaster’s profound failure. Not that any failure can be blamed on the staff who worked hard at the channel. They did their best. Failure sits squarely with the fools who ran the channel in Scotland and their useless bosses in London.

If there was justice in the world, they would never work again. But the top tier of the BBC isn’t about justice. It’s about providing rich berths for corporate failures who have spent their careers falling upwards. Expect the dolts who killed BBC Scotland to continue rising in the wasteland that’s British broadcasting.

The BBC never gave a damn about its Scottish channel. In truth, it feels like they wanted it to fail from the get-go. Seven years is all the channel lasted. It appeared the year before Covid. Now it’s gone. What a waste of everyone’s time and money.

What a colossal two-fingers to the Scottish people. That BBC Scotland was chief among the main cuts announced by London tells you all you need know about where Scotland stands in the estimation of the broadcaster’s officer class.

It is equally astonishing that nobody is taking responsibility for this fiasco. Why has Hayley........
