At our election hustings in April, the six party leaders bidding to be First Minister were asked what single lever they would pull to grow the economy.
The answer was definitive: “planning reform.” And it was heard by more than 300 business leaders.
To be fair to John Swinney, he is consistent.
Planning reform was in the SNP's manifesto. He then announced it himself as a key policy area for the Scottish Government’s first 100 days at our annual lunch in May.

It was in the Programme for Government, it was spoken about at the SNP's recent 'Business Day', and it has been discussed at countless round tables and meetings with businesses and other stakeholders - to work out what planning reform should look like.
There is definitely no shortage of talk about the planning system – what business needs now is action.
