The need for peace

War is finally to the benefit of none. Its impact is negative in the long term for even those who seemingly declare victory. In a world that is so densely connected in terms of economic activities, the escalation in the Middle East is bound to bring hardships. Keeping this in view it is in the interest of all that the current flare up is doused down, and diplomacy is once again brought to the centre stage.

It is time that the global voices raise in favour of ending the war and finding ways and means to restore peace. To this end it is imperative that UN is brought into the fore and the influential countries in the world enhance their activities.

India, as the world’s largest democracy, has expressed its deep concern over the developments in the middle east. It is time that India takes up a role of peace builder in this war torn region. India has over the decades acted as a non-aligned country and has maintained relations across the power divide. It can leverage its influence and add to the efforts of peace building.

Right now the scene is very grim, and one can hardly figure out where the things are headed. The way the entire region of middle east is engulfed in this flare up, one is very skeptical about any immediate chances of peace. God forbid, it can spread further and involve global powers in a deadly combat that can result in a far deadlier confrontation than one can imagine right now. Keeping that in view the task to infuse an element of restrain becomes urgent.

It is a time when the sagacity, wisdom and influence of the global political leadership is put to test. An extra ordinary stroke of mediation, an out of box diplomacy, and supreme skills of negotiation are needed to put a stop to this war in the middle east. One can only hope that better sense prevails and the violent conflagration is brought to end.
