In an era defined by rapid technological advancement, global competition, and constant change, education systems worldwide are being compelled to rethink their priorities. While academic excellence and examination results continue to dominate educational discourse, a crucial question remains: Are our schools, colleges, and universities equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the real world? The answer, unfortunately, appears to be no.Across educational institutions of J&K, the emphasis largely remains on grades, marks, and theoretical knowledge. While these are undoubtedly important, they are no longer sufficient to ensure success in today’s highly competitive environment. Employers increasingly seek individuals who possess a combination of technical expertise and essential life skills. Yet many students graduate without acquiring the competencies required to navigate modern workplaces and societal challenges. Among the most neglected yet critical skills are analytical skills, emotional intelligence, creative thinking, interpersonal communication, technical proficiency, and lifelong and active learning. These skills have become indispensable for personal and professional growth, and their absence often leaves graduates struggling to secure meaningful employment and advance their careers. Most of the reputed companies and recruiters of India visiting the campuses of J&K, as part of the campus recruitment process, have to leave campuses without making any selections because of a lack of such skills among candidates.
