Forbes Daily: Walmart Plans To Use Tariff Refunds To Slash Prices
Walmart’s earnings have long been considered an unofficial gauge of consumer health, and on Thursday the company reported its slowest U.S. sales growth in years.
Shares of the world’s largest retailer fell 9% despite beating Wall Street’s earnings expectations. The company’s pharmacy business took a hit from federal Medicare negotiations that have reduced drug prices—an issue that CFO John David Rainey said will likely extend into next year.
Walmart also reported that it’s set to receive $2.9 billion in tariff refunds, which will go toward price relief for consumers.
