BIGGER PICTURE (Part 1): Lost, found ... then stolen? Part 1

Those of us who are dog lovers tend to have them for most of our lives. When one does pass away, the timetables may vary but often the pet is replaced by a new one that will provide the unconditional love only a dog can give.

That was the case for Rossana and Andy Shanklin of Geneva. After three years, the longtime dog owners finally believed it was the right time to get a new member of their family.

After being interviewed, having their home and yard inspected thoroughly, and with the blessing of the nonprofit Puppy Mill Rescue Team of Brockport, they were able to purchase a rescue: a Shih Tzu they named Dayzee. She arrived to her new home four days before Thanksgiving.

The pooch is 5 years old and had spent five months with a foster family after its initial rescue. Dayzee seemed to be getting quite comfortable in its new living situation, and in people’s laps, while tolerating a joyful family gathering on Thanksgiving easily, Rossana and Andy said.

For the Shanklins, the next day — Black Friday — became a rather dark day.

Dayzee was let outside in the enclosed backyard to do the dog’s “business” on a cold and very windy day. Roughly two minutes later, it was discovered she was no longer there. According........
