DOJ Report On FBI’s Anti-Catholic Cell Group – OpEd
Catholic League president Bill Donohue says a new DOJ write-up of the Feb. 8, 2023 Richmond FBI memo on “radical traditionalist” Catholics still omits that Horowitz’s 2024 IG review found the probe spilled onto “mainline” Catholics and that Biden-era FBI language treated pro-life, pro-family, two-sex views as domestic-terror markers.
The memo’s three “targets,” he writes, were a non-Catholic, a dead man, and one “rad-trad”; work continued after the memo was ordered deleted; Grassley later flagged an unpublished second memo pulled after backlash he attributes to the League, not big media.
He claims all involved FBI staff have now been fired under Trump and treats the episode as an activist-driven anti-Catholic hunt under a president who called himself devout.
The Department of Justice’s recent report discussing how the FBI under President Biden abused its authority by spying on Catholics has much to commend, though for some reason it left out important issues that previously surfaced and are worth restating.
The issue at hand is a memo from February........
