Uzbekistan Hosted a Major International Forum on Islamic Civilization — The First International Islamic Civilization Forum (July 7–11, 2026) in Tashkent, Samarkand, and Termiz brought together ~300 participants from over 40 countries to discuss the intellectual, humanistic, and scholarly legacy of Islamic civilization, with a focus on moderation, tolerance, and enlightenment.

Focus on Key Historical Scholars and Heritage — Sessions centered on the legacies of Imam al-Bukhari, Imam Termizi, and Imam Maturidi, highlighting Uzbekistan’s historical role as a center of Islamic scholarship (Mawarannahr) and its efforts to preserve, digitize, and promote this heritage through research centers, museums, and the new Centre of Islamic Civilization.

Adoption of the Tashkent Declaration and Broader Ambitions — The forum concluded with the Tashkent Declaration proposing ten global initiatives (including a World Alliance of Islamic Civilization, digital heritage registry, encyclopedia, and museum union), signaling Uzbekistan’s desire to position itself as a leading international hub for Islamic cultural and scholarly dialogue.

Titled “Islamic Civilization: The Path of Peace, Tolerance, and Enlightenment,” the forum explored the intellectual and humanistic legacy of Islamic civilization, Uzbekistan’s historical contribution to scholarship, and opportunities for wider international cooperation.
