The goal for federalists should be a definitive, resounding defeat for the separatists that pushes them into obscurity for a generation, and sends a message to Danielle Smith and all other subsequent leaders not to indulge this foolishness again

These are now the real adversaries for the federalist side in Alberta’s Oct. 19 vote on a secession referendum.

With poll after poll continuing to show highly similar results of 25 to 30 per cent support for separation, this feels like it is no longer a struggle for hearts and minds (if it ever was) and is now simply a ground battle to get out the vote.

And unfortunately, whether through incompetence or deliberate disruption, the UCP government is giving Albertans plenty of potential excuses to avoid casting ballots.
