This wasn’t my first rodeo with a census and yet I found myself somewhat surprised at the quantity and scope of the questions. Our federal government wants to know a lot of personal things about us beyond how many people live in our household.

I answered everything, not just because it’s the law, but because I think it’s vital for our country to have a detailed sense of its own demographic dynamics. If nothing else, such numbers give us a foundation for when we complain that Edmonton and Alberta are not getting our fair share.
