Canadians are today united around one idea — hammer Donald Trump’s tariffs. But will Canadians also unite around the idea that is the best way to make the U.S. pay the biggest price?
To beat a strong man like Trump we have to be far stronger ourselves. We need to build up Canada, especially by righting a ghastly and historic mistake.
Tariffs and retaliatory tariffs are a lose-lose scenario for all. Instead, how about we embark on the nation-building mission of ramping up our thwarted natural resource and industrial base? If we want to win this fight with Trump, would it not be wise to find new markets and competitive bidders for our abundant natural resources?

It could be that too many of us are wedded to the economy-crushing policies that served to block natural resource and industrial development, limit our trade options, drive up inflation, hammer our prosperity and turn Canada into a weakling among nations, making us prone to bullies like Trump’s U.S., Xi’s China and Putin’s Russia.
