Steven Woolger, 48, repeatedly bludgeoned the animals with a metal spiked tool and plastic pipe while working at a boar stud farm in Burgh Castle.

He had pleaded guilty to eight animal and cruelty welfare charges including failing to protect the pigs from pain, suffering and injury at Norwich Magistrates’ Court in June.

Today Woolgar was sentenced at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court and was banned from working with farm animals for 10 years and handed a suspended prison sentence.

The charges relate to when he was employed at the Innovis Gene Transfer Centre (GTC) East, a boar semen farm between May and September 2024.

It followed an undercover investigation by Animal Justice Project capturing the workers repeatedly kicking and hitting the animals.

The 781 hours of secret filming showed the boars appearing to be mistreated and in conditions deemed to be in breach of animal welfare laws.
