The conversations were caught after a body-worn camera was left recording, unknown to the officers, inside a Norwich police station.

The device had been confiscated from Gemma Barnes, an animal rights protestor, after she was arrested.

Officers failed to turn off the camera so when it was later returned to her she was able to access more than four hours of footage recorded inside Bethel Street Police Station.

Ms Barnes - who has been arrested at least 20 times in the last six years - has been releasing extracts online and has launched a legal case against the force.

Senior officers have acknowledged the recordings "will undermine public confidence in policing" and initiated a fresh internal investigation.

In one exchange, a female officer is heard saying: "I illegally stop, search IC3 (black) females and then I arrest them."

During the same discussion among officers about stop and searches, one joked about saying to people who were stopped: "You're being black and disobedient."

Another comment added: “You're being stopped and searched because my colleague said so."

In a separate conversation, an officer describes a visit to a Norwich massage parlour where "happy endings” are mentioned.

"Did you go there innocently thinking I need a massage?" one asks.

"And then they're like, you want a w*nk"

document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() { iFrameResize({ }, '#exco-iframe-259987'); }, false);

Another officer replies to say: "Yeah pretty much."

He added: “I got there, what I find a bit strange is that each room has like a card reader in it.”

They then discuss shackles underneath the bed, and "lacey underwear".

One officer then says: “Honestly though, I’m going back outside of work hours.”

HOW DID THE FOOTAGE EMERGE?

Ms Barnes was arrested when she and a group of animal rights campaigners went to the police station in January 2023 to deliver a petition calling for a man to be charged over an incident in which his mobility scooter drover over a........
