The Ship in Brancaster topped the regional list in The Times and The Sunday Times’ guide to the 50 Best Places to Stay in the UK.

Siobhan and Catriona Peyton took over the pub, which dates back to 1790, last May.

The sisters also own Sculthorpe Mill - a venue that holds a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand.

"The new owners of the Ship have reimagined the Med-inspired menu, bar and bedrooms, ensuring that this coastal inn in Brancaster will float your boat," the judges said of the pub.

Claire Irvin, head of travel at The Times and The Sunday Times, added: "The highly anticipated unveiling of this year's Best Places To Stay awards arrives like a breath of much-needed fresh air.

"It lands amid the tremors of global uncertainty and a winter that has felt uniquely, relentlessly grey.

"This list is as celebratory as the judging was uncompromising; our criteria remain fixed, even as our readers’ focus on genuine value sharpens."

Earlier this year, The Ship was also praised as the Evening Standard's pub of the week.
