Last month, the government said RAF Barnham, near Thetford, was one of three sites that could house a total of about 3,750 migrants if planning permission was granted.

In response, hundreds descended outside of the gates of RAF Barnham on Sunday in protest to object to the plans.

Stuart Godbold, who was stationed at RAF Barnham during his career, said: "I served for years in the RAF here and I find it really sad.

"We went over there to help them rebuild and have the chance for a fresh start but instead of rebuilding, they all chose to come here instead."

Around 500 members of the public attended the protest which saw people of all ages including families attend.
