Reform defends stance on Norfolk council shake-up challenge amid criticism

Reform, which took control of County Hall after May's elections, has made clear that stopping Labour's local government reorganisation - which would scrap the county council and the other eight authorities in Norfolk - is one of its top priorities.

The administration claims government ministers acted unlawfully in deciding the nine should be reduced to three, with unitary councils covering Greater Norwich, West Norfolk, and East Norfolk.

While officers at County Hall are talking to counterparts at district councils about how the transition would happen, the Reform administration told local government secretary Steve Reed it would not support such work.
