AB Cave's proposals for the site in Terrington St Clement, near King's Lynn, were met with a raft of objections before they were withdrawn.

Locals feared they would cause traffic problems around the site on Northgate Way, while concerns were also raised over the loss of wildlife habitat.

But one villager who broke ranks said they were "astounded" at the response. They added: "This village needs extra housing desperately.
