The matter, which the theatre says is now being pursued by police, was the subject of a three-month internal probe.

In a statement on Friday morning, a spokeswoman for Norwich Theatre, which runs the Theatre Royal and Playhouse Theatre, stated that workers were found to have stolen money and that others had also sprayed graffiti on theatre property.

However, a spokeswoman for Unite the Union said its members who have been dismissed deny any wrongdoing.

"Our members deny there has been any theft of the theatre’s property or any other wrongdoing," she said.

"Our members will co-operate in full if they are asked to meet with the police."

The denial comes after a statement was released by Norwich Theatre following the internal investigation spanning three months.
