Countries announce plans, and Pakistan has done so for decades, from five-year plans to long-term visions, each followed by a launching ceremony and a target year far into the future. There are very few nations that go back to the start every year and apprise the people of the country of what has been done and how it has been done. Here is a habit that Pakistan can learn from a brotherly nation, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which truly knows the real secret through its successful vision 2030, now ten years old.

As per KSA vision 2030 annual report, it indicates as many as 1,290 active initiatives followed by 390 key performance indicators, and, amazingly, 93 percent of these indicators met the target or even beat it for the year. A total of 935 initiatives have been completed and implemented fully. These figures are not only impressive but the practice behind them matters more. The government is fully open, allowing its people and investors to examine and check its progress on hundreds of targets. The beauty lies within the plan: and that is accountability, a built-in feature of this vision.
